President's Message
Dear Northern Nevada Claims Association Members, Once again it’s been another fantastic year that has come and gone for the association. We are proud to say that after over 25 years we are still going strong! I’d like to thank the current board and officers for their efforts and contribution to this organization, as well as the many members that have stepped up to help make our events successful this year.
Nevada State Claims Association Officers and Directors for the coming year were elected on May 8th and become effective in September. The new state officers are: Jeff Hall, President; Tara Kemen, Vice-President; Michelle Santos, Secretary; and Mike Bussio, Treasurer. State directors are: Jim DeFrates and Dawn Kyles for the South and Allegra Boyd and Danny Sommers for the North. Northern Nevada Chapter Officer and Director Elections will be held at the August 7th luncheon. All members are invited to run for an office to help our association grow and prosper. If you are interested in running, please let an officer or board member know ASAP so we can put your name on the ballot. The Annual golf tournament was held at Wolf Run Golf Club in Reno on June 19th and the title sponsor was BELFOR Property Restoration and Environmental. Other sponsor included Madsen, Kneppers & Assoc., 1-888-4-Abatement, SERVPRO® of Reno SW, Bobby Pages, D H of Nevada, SERVPRO® of Reno East, ServiceMaster First Response, FarrWest Engineering, CRDN, John S. Barsanti Insurnace Agency CIG. We are pleased to announce that it was the largest golf event turnout to date! Thank you to everyone who participated, supported, and contributed to the success of this fun event. Our educational monthly luncheons so far this year have featured Chief Gareth Harris and Simmie the arson dog from the Lake Valley Fire District in February which were sponsored by JM, Building Official for the City of Sparks Mark Miranda in March who was sponsored by BELFOR Property Restoration, and Dr. Graham M Kent, Director of the Nevada Seismological Laboratory and Professor in the Department of Geological Sciences and Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno in April. Our next Lunch & Learn is on August 7, 2014 will be about “The Ins and Outs of Depositions”. Lunch & Learns are held on the first Thursday of each month from Noon - 1:00PM (networking starts at 11:45) at the South Valleys Public Library at 15650 Wedge Parkway, Reno, Nevada. The annual member barbeque is on Thursday, July 24th from 11:00-2:00 at the Rancho San Rafael Park’s Pagoda Pavilion. It is free to members. It is time to renew your annual membership, which is easy to do at http://www.nevadaclaims.org/join.html and is a smart move, since everyone who’s membership is paid up by July 23rd gets to attend the July BBQ at Rancho San Rafael for free, and member vendors can set up display tables at the event and distribute literature and other items. Except for sponsoring luncheons, this is the only time vendors can do this during the year. Stay tuned for details on our 7th Annual Bowling Tournament in October. This event is always fun filled, but also helps us give back to the community by raising money for CARE Chest of Sierra Nevada. It is an honor to serve such a great group of professionals, and I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events.
